Physical Education and Health Department Syllabus
Teachers: Mr. Arreola & Mr. Martinez
DESCRIPTION AND IMPORTANCE
College-Ready Middle Academy #5 is a standards-based middle school. Through clear expectations students will follow the contents of the California State Standards for Physical Education and Health. Students will be assessed on the performance and knowledge of these standards. Physical Education and Health is important to our overall curriculum because of the physical, mental, and social benefits that the students learn. OBJECTIVES
The curriculum and instructional methods are based in part on striving for the following objectives:
1. To increase knowledge and skill in sports, health, and leisure activities that can be carried on for a lifetime.
2. To understand the principles of movement and be able to apply that understanding to new movements.
3. Learn to make educated decisions and accept responsibility for actions.
4. To develop social skills that encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive interpersonal relationships.
5. To develop general body management skills such as balance, coordination, agility, and flexibility.

MATERIALS NEEDED DAILY
- Physical Education Uniform: Recommended (Plain white t-shirt and navy blue colored shorts).
- Athletic Shoes with laces.
- Socks.
- Composition Book, Reading Book, Agenda, and Pencil.
*Navy blue colored sweat pants with no logos are optional when cold.
*No jackets/sweaters will be allowed during P.E. period unless extreme weather conditions occur.
* Never share your Physical Education uniform or shoes with others (For hygiene reason).
RULES/EXPECTATIONS/PROCEDURES
Class
- To be PROMPT to class – be on time and lined up outside the PE room in orderly fashion.
- To be PREPARED – have your physical education uniform, and always bring your materials.
- Walk into class, sit in your assigned seat and row, and begin copying the daily Objective, HW, and Do Now.
- To PARTICIPATE – to do what you are asked, when you are asked, and to do it happily.
- To be PRODUCTIVE – to accomplish the tasks you are assigned in a timely manner.
- SLANT- Sit-up, Listen to the Speaker, Ask and Answer Questions, Nod your head, Track the speaker
*NO ELECTRONICS!!
Dressing Area: GET IN…GET DRESSED…GET OUT…
- If you forgot your PE uniform, stay out of the dressing area.
- Enter the dressing area in an orderly manner. Running, pushing, shouting, screaming, loud whistling, and other disruptions are strictly prohibited.
- After you are dressed, go directly back to class. Do not “hang-out” in the dressing area for any reason.
- Keep the dressing area clean. CRMA #5 Property is to be respected and not damaged in any way.
- Food, drinks, gum, and glass containers are not permitted.
- After changing back into your school uniform, leave the dressing area and report back to class.
- Stay in assigned area and wait for the teacher to dismiss you to your next class.
Restroom Policy
Restroom needs are to be taken care of during the 20-minute nutrition, 30-minute lunch, or dressing area time.
CONSEQUENCES
Step 1 – Verbal Warning
Step 2 – Student detention
Step 3 – Referral to the main office or phone call home
Step 4 – After multiple detentions, slip sent home for parents to sign and possible parent conference if situation doesn’t get better.
*Mr. Arreola and Mr. Martinez reserve the right to skip to add or delete any step as they see necessary.
Any sudden outbreak in behavior such as, defiance, lack of participation, foul language, rude behavior, or disrespect will be handled case by case. Possible immediate consequences will be something such as paper pick-up, staying after class, parent phone call, or going directly to the office.
Grading Policy
- Grading will consist of Participation/Skills/Fitness assessment, written assignments and presentations. With participation having the most weight towards your grade.

- Participation/Performance grades will be entered every 3 weeks, see examples below:
4 = 0 NPs for the 3 weeks
3 = 1 NP for the 3 weeks
2 = 2 NPs for the 3 weeks
1 = 3 or more NPs for the 3 weeks
HEALTH NOTES POLICY
Anytime your child will be unable to participate in physical education class because of illness or injury, please send a note explaining why they will not be participating. If they will not be participating for more than three days a doctor’s note is required by law (Ed. Code 51222). Unless stated by a doctor, students who are excused from activities must still dress for P.E.
CLASSWORK/HOMEWORK and ABSENTEE POLICY
Homework assignments will be given and are expected to be turned in on the due date. LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE DEDUCTED POINTS unless student was absent or prior arrangement was made with the teacher. Any graded assignments missed by the student are his/her responsibility to make up at a later date arranged with the teacher. Students can get any notes or material missed from their classmates or on.

Con expectativas claras los estudiantes seguirán el contenido de los estándares del estado de California de educación física y salud. Los estudiantes serán evaluados en el funcionamiento y el conocimiento de estos estándares. La educación física y salud es importante para nuestro plan de estudios total debido a las ventajas físicas, mentales, y sociales que los estudiantes aprenden. Objetivos
1 El estudiante será competente en muchas actividades de movimiento.
2 El estudiante entenderá cómo y porqué uno se mueve en una variedad de situaciones y utilizará
esta información para realzar sus habilidades.

NECESARIO TRAER A CLASE TODOS LOS DIAS
1) El uniforme de educación física de CRMA #5. Recomendado:(Uniforme consiste: Playera solida de color blanco, chores color azul marino)
2) Lápiz, libreta, planeador y libro para leer.
3) Calcetines.
4) Zapatos atléticos con cintas.
*Pantalones de sudar color marino sin logos son opcional en tiempo de frio.
*Sudaderas no serán permitidas durante la clase de educación física almenos que el clima las requiera.
*Nunca comparta su uniforme de educación física con compañeros. (Razones higiénicas)
*La clase de educación física requiere que todos los días los estudiantes se vistan con el uniforme indicado. Sin excepción a las condiciones del clima.
REGLAS/EXPECTATIVAS/ PROCEDIMIENTO
Clase
1. Ser PUNTUAL a clase - llegar a tiempo y estar formados afuera del salon en orden.
2. Estar PREPARADO – Presentarse con su uniforme de educación física y todos sus útiles.
3. Caminar adentro de la clase, sentarse en su asiento y ila asignada, y comensar copiar los objectivos diarios, tarea, y as horita.
4. PARTICIPAR – Obedecer al maestro y hacer las actividades con una actitud positiva.
5. Ser PRODUCTIVO - terminar las tareas asignadas y entregarlas a tiempo.
6. SLANT- Sentado bien, Escuchar a la persona que esta hablando, Preguntar y responder a preguntas, Mover la cabeza (si oh no), Mirar ala persona que esta hablando.
*Es requerido que todos los estudiantes participen y den lo mejor de ellos durante toda la clase.
*Todos los estudiantes deberán permanecer en el área asignada de educación física. Estudiantes que no cumplan con esto, serán reportados tarde a la clase.)
¡Prohibido todos los aparatos electrónicos!
Área de Vestuario: ENTRE…VISTASE…SALGA…
- Si el estudiante no se viste en su uniforme de educación física, son requeridos mantenerse fuera del vestuario.
- Entre en el vestuario de una manera ordenada. Comportamiento como: corriendo, empujando, gritando, sonidos ruidosos. ¡Están estrictamente prohibidos!
- Después de que usted se vista, tiene que ir directamente a su área de la clase asignada, fuera del vestuario. El vestuario no es centro para charlas ni para reuniones, esto esta estrictamente prohibido.
- Mantenga su vestuario limpio. La propiedad de CRMA tiene que ser respetada y libre de maltrato.
- No se permiten comida, bebidas, goma de mascar o envases de vidrio.
- Después de cambiar en su uniforme escolar, deje el vestuario y repórtese al área asignada.
- Quédese en el área asignada y espere que el maestro le de permiso para ir a su próxima clase.
CONSECUENCIAS
Paso 1 - Advertencia verbal
Paso 2 - Detención con el profesor será servida
Paso 3 - Referido a la oficina y posible llamada será hecha a padres.
Paso 4 - Despues de multiple detenciones, una forma con el comportamiento de su hijo/a sera mandada a casa para que los padres firmen y una posible conferencia con los padres si no se mejora la situacion.
*El Sr. Arreola y el Sr. Martinez reservan el derecho de saltar, agregar, o borrar cualquier de estos pasos como ellos vean necesario.
Cualquier comportamiento por ejemplo, desafío, falta de participación, mal comportamiento, grosero, lenguaje inapropiado, o la falta de respeto será manejada de acuerdo a la situación. Las consecuencias inmediatas posibles serán algo como recoger papel, permaneciendo después de clase, llamada telefónica al padre, o yendo directamente a la oficina.
POLIZA DE NOTA (GRADO)
El grado ACADÉMICO del estudiante sera basado en 1 grado combinando con la porción de educación física y salud. Las categorías incluyen participación, vestuario, tarea, exámenes, pruebas, reportes escritos y presentaciones. Siendo la participacion del estudiante que mas influya en el grado final.
CALIFICACION BASADA EN AVILIDADES/ PRESENTACIONES/ ENSAYOS:
Esto será basado en lo siguiente: Prueba de desarrollo en las actividades, ensayos, presentaciones orales.
Ensayos, pruebas, mini-pruebas, proyectos serán calificados en rangos de 4-3-2-1 puntos.
- Grados de participación / actuacion se introducirán cada 3 semanas , ver ejemplos a continuación:
NP significa que “No esta Participando”
4 = 0 NPs en las 3 semenas
3 = 1 NP en las 3 semenas
2 = 2 NPs en las 3 semenas
1 = 3 o mas NPs en las 3 semenas
POLIZA DE NOTAS DE SALUD
Si su niño/a no podrá participar en clase de educación física debido a enfermedad o lesión, envíe por favor una nota que explique porqué no participará. Si no participa por más de tres días la nota de un doctor es necesario por ley (Ed Codigo 51222).
POLIZA DE Trabajo en Clase/TAREA Y AUSENCIA
Las asignaciones o tareas serán dadas, cuando el profesor sienta que sea apropiado. Se espera que estas asignaciones sean regresadas en la fecha tope. Se aceptará tareas después de la fecha tope con puntos deductados, al menos que el estudiante estuvo ausente o arreglos previos fueron hechos con el maestro.
